How to Send Money with Zelle from the Mobile App
How to set up Zelle through Online Banking

Paying a person with Zelle is a great way to send money to friends and family, regardless of where they bank. With just an email address or mobile phone number, you can quickly and safely send and receive money.

How to ensure Zelle is available to you

  1. Update your email and phone number on file.

  2. From your account dashboard, navigate to Transfers.

  3. On desktop, start from the Pay & Transfers dropdown; on mobile, select Payments. Then select Send Money with Zelle from the options.

First-time transfer

  1. The first time you use Zelle, an authorization code will be sent to your mobile phone or email.

  2. Enter the code to proceed and you’ll receive confirmation alert.

  3. For mobile users, you will also be prompted to grant VyStar Mobile Banking access your contacts, which will enable you to add recipients directly from your contacts list.

Add a new recipient manually

  1. Select Add New Email or Mobile Number.

  2. Enter the recipient's details and Continue

How to Make a Transfer

  1. Select the person you’d like to send money to then Continue.

  2. Confirm the Send tab is selected.

  3. Enter the transfer amount.

    • You have the option to add a note describing the transfer.

  4. Confirm the transaction details are correct and Send.

  5. Once your payment is sent, you’ll see a confirmation screen. Select All Done to return to the Zelle dashboard.

    • The money will typically be available within minutes.


Frequently Asked Questions

Who can I send money to with Zelle?

You can send money to almost anyone you know and trust with a bank account in the U.S. When using Zelle, at least one side of the transaction (sender or receiver) must have access to Zelle through their bank or credit union.


Should I use Zelle if I don't know the recipient? 

Zelle is a great way to send money to friends, family, and people you know.  If you don’t know the person, or aren’t sure you will get what you are paying for, we recommend using a different form of payment. 

Note: VyStar nor Zelle provides purchase or buyer protection for goods or services you purchase using Zelle. 


What if a payment was sent incorrectly?  

If a payment was sent to the incorrect person or for an incorrect amount, contact the person or financial institution to which the funds were sent to see if the funds can be returned. 


What information is needed to send funds? 

You’ll need to have the recipient’s:  

  • Mobile Number 

  • Email

  • Account Number with the financial institution's routing number. 


How and when are funds sent and received? 

If the recipient is registered with Zelle, funds are sent through a secure network called NOW and are available within minutes. If the recipient is not registered with Zelle, funds may be sent by ACH and may take 1 to 3 business days after the person is registered.  


How do I change the account I use to send and receive money? 

If you’re using the Zelle app, you can easily change your account directly within the app. To switch your account: 

  • Go to the gear icon  

  • Go to Account 

  • Go to Switch Accounts 

  • You’ll be prompted to unlink your current account and add a new one.  

Important:  By switching your account, you will lose all Zelle transaction history associated with your old account. 


What are the cut-off times for Zelle? 

  • Instant Payments

    – No cut-off time, these can be done 24/7, 365 days. Payments are usually received within minutes.

  • Standard

    – The cutoff to send is 1 a.m. EST. Payments are usually received within minutes.


What happens when a financial institution is used? 

Money sent to a financial institution will be automatically deposited. 


What if the recipient’s financial institution does not use Zelle? 

A recipient whose financial institution is not a part of the Zelle network will be directed to visit www.Zellepay.com.   

Note: Using www.Zellepay.com the recipient can register with Zelle and receive their payment to their preferred financial institution. 


Can I cancel a payment? 

Yes, but only the recipient has not enrolled in Zelle, you'll need to:

  • Log in to Zelle

  • Select Activity

  • Select Stop Payment for a single payment or

  • Cancel for a payment plan

Note: If the recipient has already enrolled with Zelle and the money is sent, then the payment cannot be stopped or retrieved, because it is sent directly to their bank account. 


How many people can a split payment request be sent to? 

Up to 5 people can get one split payment request.


Can the split payment be used to send money to multiple people? 

No, The split payment is only to send a request to multiple people for money. 


Will I get a confirmation the payment is complete? 

Yes. The sender will receive a notification once the transaction is complete.
