What should I do first if my home is damaged?

Contact your homeowners insurance company to report the damage. Many have websites in addition to their toll-free numbers. Try to be patient as this is a very important step. Make sure to ask when the adjuster will be out and when to expect any claim checks. Claim checks are generally made payable to the insured (homeowner) AND the lien holder (VyStar Credit Union).

How do I begin making home repairs once I receive my check?

As the mortgage provider, VyStar’s name will be with yours on the insurance check. Therefore, we will need to also endorse the check. Once you receive your check, please visit your local branch to get an endorsement. We will give you the information and forms you need to move forward with repairs. Please do not endorse the check until you talk with us.

How does VyStar handle repairs and insurance checks?

If your home requires minor repairs and your loan is current, depending upon your current situation, we generally do not oversee the repair process. We would typically put your name on the check, which would enable you to make the necessary repairs. For significant damage or loans that are not current, VyStar will help monitor the repairs to your home to ensure your property is restored.

How can I make sure the process runs smoothly?

As you move through the repair process, please remember to include your mortgage loan on any information you send VyStar. And keep copies of all documents for your files. We will work closely with you throughout the process.
