Overdraft Protection FAQs

What Is Courtesy Pay?

Courtesy Pay is a standard overdraft service that acts as an extra line of defense against returned and/or denied transactions. Courtesy Pay offers coverage for checks and ACH debits (automatic payments or deductions). It also can potentially cover recurring debit card transactions, one-time POS Debit Card purchases and ATM withdrawals. Courtesy Pay is designed to save you from the hassle of dealing with returned and/or denied transactions and the fees that come along with them. To be eligible to enroll in Courtesy Pay, members must be 18 years or older and their accounts must be in good standing.

How Does Courtesy Pay Work?

Instead of denying a transaction when you don’t have sufficient funds in your account, your account would be overdrawn up to a specified amount and charged a per-transaction fee of $29.

Please be advised: It is only in the event that your checking account and overdraft protection account(s) have insufficient funds that Courtesy Pay may cover the item(s). Courtesy Pay may cover a specified number of transactions per month up to a specific threshold amount.

What Are the Benefits of Courtesy Pay?

Courtesy Pay saves you from multiple fees, and it also saves you from the embarrassment of having your transaction denied in public. Currently, if a transaction is processed and there are insufficient funds in your checking account, or in the account(s) linked as overdraft protection, you will likely receive a non-sufficient funds (NSF) fee as well as a third-party return charge. In some cases, the third-party might try to process your transaction multiple times, which would result in more fees. Courtesy Pay is designed to save you from those multiple fees.

When Does Courtesy Pay Come in Handy?

Courtesy Pay comes in handy when you do not have enough in your checking account or overdraft protection account(s) to cover a transaction. If you have never had to deal with denied and/or returned transactions, you may not have use for Courtesy Pay, but we hope it gives you some peace of mind to know it’s there if you ever need it.
