Whether money’s tight or you sometimes lose track as you move money around, we’ve got your back with a little extra protection. VyStar offers standard overdraft protection as well as Courtesy Pay to help you avoid multiple overdraft fees. Overdraft protection automatically transfers money from one of your alternate accounts, should you have less money in it than you need to process a transaction. As an extra line of defense, we also offer extended coverage with Courtesy Pay to help you avoid both embarrassment and fees, including possible charges from local businesses for returned checks.
How Does Standard Overdraft Protection Work?
Standard overdraft protection safeguards your account by automatically transferring funds from a linked account (e.g. savings, money market, line of credit or an alternate checking account) if there is less in it than needed for a check or automated clearing house (ACH) debit. With overdraft protection, you are essentially borrowing your own funds from a separate account to protect your checking account from being overdrawn. There are no fees associated with this service, and multiple accounts can be used to protect one account.

VyStar is now offering Courtesy Pay for our members to serve as an extra line of defense against certain returned and/or denied transactions. Currently, members are equipped with the option of standard overdraft protection to safeguard their account(s) in the event that they do not have sufficient funds in their checking account to process a transaction. Standard overdraft protection covers checks and ACH debits. Courtesy Pay offers the same coverage as overdraft protection, and can also potentially cover recurring debit card transactions, one-time point-of-sale (POS) purchases and ATM withdrawals.
When using your VyStar account for overdraft protection, you may only transfer the amount of funds currently available in the account. Be sure to check VyStar’s Disclosures for withdrawal limitations.
An unsecured line of credit can also be used to provide overdraft protection. If you apply and qualify for an unsecured line of credit, funds from a line of credit (up to your available credit limit) may automatically be transferred into your checking account in order to pay a check or ACH debit.

For all Savings and Money Market accounts, no more than six (6) preauthorized, automatic, Internet, or telephone transfers and withdrawals may be made from these accounts to another account of yours, to a third party, or by check, draft or access card in any statement cycle. If you exceed these limitations, your account may be subject to temporary reclassification or account closure by the Credit Union. Does not apply to Health Savings Accounts or IRA Savings Accounts.
