In honor of Ralph Story’s 50 years of service to VyStar, the VyStar Service Center in Fleming Island has been renamed the Story Center.
Mr. Story has truly made a difference as a VyStar volunteer for the past 50 years. He has helped provide a safe place to save and borrow, as well as improve the financial well-being of hundreds of thousands of members.
“Mr. Story joined the VyStar Credit Union Board (known at the time as Jax Navy Federal Credit Union) when the credit union had $27 million in assets and served 31,624 members,” says VyStar’s former President/CEO, Terry West (now retired). “During Mr. Story’s service, we changed our name, became state chartered, expanded our field of membership, expanded our branch and ATM network, added numerous services such as Internet and Mobile Banking, Bill Payer and debit cards, exceeded 500,000 members and grew assets to almost $5.7 billion. We greatly appreciate his untiring service as well as the contribution he has made to VyStar’s success and the success of the credit union movement as a whole.”
During his service to VyStar, Mr. Story served as Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, Supervisory Committee Chairman, and Policy Committee Chairman, along with Chairman, Vice Chairman and Treasurer of VyStar Financial Group. He continues to serve as VyStar’s Policy Committee Chairman and VyStar Financial Group Chairman. Mr. Story served 12 years active duty and reserves in the Navy, and retired from Naval Air Depot (NADEP) in Jacksonville after 36 years.
Mr. Story has also worked diligently on behalf of the credit union movement, earning recognition from the Florida Credit Union League (21 years of service), Credit Union National Association (15 years) and the Defense Credit Union Council (13 years) for the work he did while serving on their Boards and Committees.
The Story Center (formally VyStar Service Center) was purchased in 2007 to house VyStar’s Contact Center. Today, in addition to the Contact Center, the Story Center includes VyStar’s Business Services, Investment Services, Training and Technology Departments with over 200 employees utilizing the 85,000-square-foot facility.
